PGA Championship 2017: Jon Rahm executes incredible backwards shot

Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Jon Rahm finished in 58th place, but he provided one of the best shots of the 2017 PGA Championship.

Rahm lined up on hole No. 18 in Sunday's final round with a score of three over par. His first shot on the 494-yard hole landed near a series of creeks on the right side. He then adjusted his stance on the Quail Hollow hole. He didn't have the space to stand normally and approach the ball, as his body would have been in the hazard area.

So Rahm took the club in his right hand and faced backwards. He swung the club backwards, with the club facing in. His stroke sent the ball down the center of the green.

Rahm finished the hole with a bogey. He carded a 75 on the day and was 7-over par with a 291 for the tournament. Rahm is the No. 6 ranked golfer in the world. His last victory came at the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open in January at Torrey Pines. He cashed in for $1.2 million with that win.

The 2017 PGA Championship was full of great shots this year, but also had some blunders. Ian Poulter even got into a heated spat with a rules official after hitting a wayward drive. Rory McIlroy might have had the shot of the tournament when he skipped a ball off of the cart path near the tenth hole and made par on the hole.

Justin Thomas took home the championship for his first major victory. Thomas was 8-under for the tournament.
