This week in golf: Who is playing, how to watch, updates

Coming up this week in professional golf:

TV: Thursday and Friday, 4-7 p.m. EDT on the Golf Channel; Saturday and Sunday, 1-2:30 p.m. on the Golf Channel and 3-6 p.m. ET on CBS.

LAST YEAR: Jordan Spieth birdied the last three holes to claim his eighth victory on the PGA Tour before the age of 23 by three strokes over Harris English, putting behind his back-nine collapse in the Masters a month earlier. Spieth, who lives nearby in Dallas, claimed his first pro victory in Texas by starting with 67-66 and then playing the weekend in 65-65. The former University of Texas star's dramatic finish included a 20-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole, a 43-foot chip-in for birdie on the 17th hole and a 34-foot birdie putt on the last hole. After making pars on the first nine holes of the final round, including a 32-foot putt on the eighth hole, Speith started the back nine with three straight birdies. English holed his third shot from 83 yards for an eagle on the first hole of the final round to tie Spieth for the lead and went ahead with two birdies late in front nine, but he couldn't keep up the pace on the back nine and finished with a 66.

LAST YEAR: Rocco Mediate captured his first PGA Tour Champions major title, shooting 5-under-par 66 in the final round to win by three strokes over two-time defending champion Colin Montgomerie of Scotland at the Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Mich. Mediate, who won for the third time on the senior circuit after claiming six victories on the PGA Tour, finished in style by holing a bunker shot for birdie on the 17th hole and sinking a 15-foot birdie putt on the last hole. Mediate posted a score of 19-under 265 to break the tournament record of 268 set by Sam Snead in 1973 at PGA National. Montgomerie closed with a 67 and equaled Snead's former record.

LAST YEAR: Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand won her third straight start and second consecutive major, finishing it off with a 5-under-par 67 to beat Christina Kim by five strokes at Travis Pointe. Jutanugarn became the first player in LPGA Tour history to earn her first three victories in successive starts, previously winning the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic and the Kingsmill Championship -- with all three coming in May. Jutanugarn also became the first LPGA Tour player to win three straight starts since Inbee Park of South Korea in 2013. The long-hitting Jutanugarn did not use her driver all week, even on the par-5 18th hole, where she made an eagle on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead. None of the challengers could catch her at any point in the final round.
