Brittany Lincicome cards ace, leads LPGA Classic

Brittany Lincicome had a hole-in-one en route to shooting an 8-under-par 65 on Friday to remain atop the leaderboard through 36 holes of the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic at Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Lincicome registered her sixth career ace to move to 17-under 129, obliterating the previous 36-hole tournament record by a staggering six shots to hold a one-shot edge over hard-charging Lexi Thompson.

"The way it's been going the last two days, the putter has been making everything, which is obviously really fun, so if I can keep that up then it could be good on Sunday," Lincicome said. "I'm just playing well, and still made everything today. Putter is on point right now, and it's exciting to see."

Thompson shattered the course and tournament record with a blistering 12-under 61 -- a career low -- to move into sole possession of second place at 16-under 130 on the Ocean Club Golf Course.

The 21-year-old Thompson carded 10 birdies and an eagle at the par-5 11th to shoot the first 12-under round in LPGA history. Annika Sorenstam holds the tour record with a 13-under 59.

"I thought about it, but I just wanted to keep on playing my own game and see where it goes," Thompson said of the possibility of shooting a 59. "I was just pin-seeking the whole day. I was just trying to stay with my routine and have good tempo with my golf swing. That's just all I've been working on."

Lincicome, who shot a first-round 64, offset a double-bogey on the par-4 14th by holing a 7-iron at the 161-yard 12th.

"When it went in I was like, 'Do I jump up and down or do I just wave my arms?' There are so many thoughts that went through my head, but obviously it's pretty fun," Lincicome said. "I didn't feel like I hit the greatest shot, but got away with it and (it was) pretty impressive."

Gerina Piller was alone at 132 following an 8-under 65 while fellow American Stacy Lewis (67) has sole possession of fourth place at 13-under 133. Megan Khang and Thailand's P.K. Kongkraphan were tied for fifth after each shot a 69.

World No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand bounced back from an opening 75 with a 3-under 69 to just make the cut while defending champion Hyo Joo Kim of South Korea followed her first-round 71 with a 66 to move to 137.

Top-ranked Lydia Ko of New Zealand isn't playing in the tournament.
