NEW YORK, March 27 (UPI) -- Anthony Brown heated up in the second half Tuesday, leading Stanford past Massachusetts 74-64 and into the National Invitation Tournament championship game.
Brown netted 13 of his 18 points down the stretch, helping spark a late 11-3 run that carried the third-seeded Cardinal (25-11) to an NIT semifinal victory. Stanford will meets Minnesota in the title game Thursday, following the Gophers' 88-67 overtime win over Washington in Thursday's other semifinal game.
Josh Owens added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Stanford, which will play the winner of Tuesday's late contest between Minnesota and Washington for the NIT title Thursday.
The fifth-seeded Minutemen (25-12) were hampered by poor shooting, hitting only 33 percent of their shots from the field.
Chaz Williams led UMass with 19 points.
