NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Kate Hudson says she embraced her drastic new haircut with open arms.

The 36-year-old actress, who was previously known for her flowing blonde locks, discussed the change Tuesday on Live! with Kelly and Michael. Hudson cut several inches off her hair prior to the Golden Globe Awards this month, and debuted the new look at the ceremony.

"I cut my hair!" the star told hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. "I was ready to cut my hair off. Why not? It'll grow back. I actually think boys are worse than girls when it comes to haircuts. Except my brother who all need haircuts and for some reason don't get them."

Hudson had shared a Snapchat video of her stylist, David Babaii, giving her a trim the day before the awards show, writing, "Check out the trailer for my new film The Cut on Snapchat : Khudsnaps." She and Babii started conservatively, but ended up cutting off seven inches.

"[We decided to] just go for it," Babaii told People magazine the night of the Golden Globes. "I cut off all of her hair! We cut off seven inches, I measured it. It's a really modern, jagged, crazy kind of cut. [We also] made her go blonder, [à la] Kate Hudson circa 2005."

Ripa herself is no stranger to drastic looks, having last dyed her hair bright pink in April. The 44-year-old television personality explained at the time she dyes her hair a different color each time she goes on vacation "to have fun hair for two weeks."

Hudson will voice Mei Mei in Kung Fu Panda 3, which opens in theaters Jan. 29. The actress is also slated for Mother's Day with Jennifer Aniston and Deepwater Horizon with Mark Wahlberg, and played Dubsmash on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon this week.
