CHICAGO, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- A bag that once contained the rape kit for the woman who accused Patrick Kane of sexual assault was found at her mother's door.

According to the alleged victim's attorney, Thomas Eoannou, the discovery compromises the integrity of the evidence.

"This concerns the integrity of that evidence," Eoannou told ABC7 Chicago. "Yesterday, the rape kit evidence bag was anonymously delivered to the home of my client's mother. We went to great links to authenticate that. That is the evidence sticker. That is the evidence bag. We confirmed it though the hospital yesterday and we had a number of law enforcement come in. This is no hoax."

Kane, a 26-year-old right winger for the Chicago Blackhawks, was accused of sexually assaulting the woman in August at his Buffalo home.

Eoannou said the empty bag was found Tuesday by the mother when she came home from work for lunch.

"I have never seen an evidence bag outside of a police lab, a prosecutor's office or a courtroom, let alone find one in a doorway of a rape victim's mother's home," Eoannou told the New York Post.

Eoannou is requesting an independent investigation.

"We need to bring in the FBI, or state troopers, or some other law enforcement agency to find out who had that bag, who put it in my client's mother's doorstep," Eoannou told ABC7 Chicago. "There was no doorbell. There was no knock. She came home for lunch yesterday and immediately called our office and brought it down. We immediately alerted the district attorney's office."

Kane has not been charged in the case.

Kane's attorney, Paul Cambria said Wednesday that none of Kane's DNA "was found from the waist down on the alleged victim," according to ABC7 Chicago.

Kane did not travel with the Blackhawks Wednesday to Detroit for a preseason game against the Red Wings, but played Tuesday night.

The Blackhawks face the New York Rangers Oct. 7 in Chicago.
