Kenny Perry put his best foot forward on Friday in his bid to win his third 3M Championship.

Perry recorded six consecutive birdies and added another to finish 7-under-par 65 and claim a share of the lead at the PGA Tour Champions event in Blaine, Minn.

Perry, who won the tournament in 2014 and 2015, is tied with Mike Goodes at TPC Twin Cities.

The duo holds a one-stroke lead over Scott Verplank, Marco Dawson, Gene Sauers and Jay Haas. Steve Flesch, Scotland's Colin Montgomerie and Brandt Jobe sat another stroke back.

Perry answered a 7-under 29 on the front nine with a bogey on the 17th hole. He rebounded from his small setback with an easy birdie putt on the 18th to forge a tie with Goodes.

Goodes collected seven birdies to put himself in position for his best finish of the year. The 60-year-old hasn't ended a tournament better than 15th place.

Verplank recorded five consecutive birdies to highlight his round before a bogey on the par-3 13th prevented him from joining Perry and Goodes atop the leaderboard.

Senior tour leader Bernhard Langer, who has won four of his first 13 starts in 2017, shot a 69.
