No. 11 Miami escapes Georgia Tech on late FG

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Quarterback Malik Rosier found wide receiver Darrell Langham for a crucial 28-yard fourth-down completion to help set up kicker Michael Badgley's 24-yard field goal as No. 11 Miami rallied for a 25-24 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon.

Just a week after throwing the decisive touchdown pass to Langham in a 24-20 victory over Florida State, Rosier again found Langham down the right side. Langham appeared to catch the ball off his facemask as he tumbled to Georgia Tech's 15-yard line with just 33 seconds remaining. Three plays later, Badgley kicked the decisive field goal with just four seconds remaining

The win kept the Hurricanes (5-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) unbeaten while the Yellow Jackets (3-2, 2-1 ACC) lost for the first time since their overtime defeat to Tennessee in the opener.

Rosier finished the game 23 of 37 for 297 yards and sophomore Travis Homer, subbing for an injured Mark Walton, rushed for 170 yards, scoring on a 27-yard run and a 17-yard reception.

Rosier got off to a slow start, missing all four of his pass attempts in the first and the Hurricanes trailed 14-3 less than a minute into the second period. But he was 9 of 13 over the final 14 minutes of the half and connected with Homer on a 17-yard touchdown pass with just 12 seconds remaining in the first half to make it a one-point game at the break.

After losing five yards on three runs their first series, the Yellow Jackets did their usual number on the ground the rest of the half, rushing for 172 yards in the first half to Miami's even 100 yards on the.

Tech finished the game rushing for 226 yards.

NOTES: Georgia Tech senior RB J.J. Green's two touchdowns were the second rushing and second receiving in his career. ... Miami QB Malik Rosier's 70-yard completion to WR Jeff Thomas was the longest completion in the junior's career. ... In addition to RB Mark Walton (out for the season after having ankle surgery), Miami was without four starters because of injuries. RG Navaughn Donaldson (lower extremity), DB Dee Delaney (lower extremity), and S Sheldrick Redwine (upper extremity) were declared out before the game and WR Ahmmon Richards (hamstring) was listed as questionable and did not play. ... Georgia Tech was without backup linemen C Scott Morgan and LG Brent Morgan. ... The win was the 15th for Miami coach Mark Richt against Georgia Tech in seven meetings. He was 13-2 against the Yellow Jackets in his 15 seasons at Georgia.
