COL FB: Notre Dame 17, Brigham Young 14

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- George Atkinson III's touchdown in the fourth quarter Saturday proved decisive in fifth-ranked Notre Dame's 17-14 victory over Brigham Young.

Notre Dame (7-0) remained undefeated and continued its best start since 2002 with a strong defensive performance, holding BYU to under 300 total yards while rebounding from a 14-7 halftime deficit.

Theo Riddick and Cierre Wood combined for 257 rushing yards and Tommy Rees -- subbing for the injured Everett Golson -- needed to complete just 7-of-16 passes for 118 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Cougars (4-4) lost their second straight despite 177 yards and two touchdowns from Nelson.
