COL FB: West Virginia 48, Texas 45

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Geno Smith threw four scoring passes Saturday and seventh-ranked West Virginia used a pair of fourth-quarter TDs to get past No. 9 Texas 48-45.

Trailing 38-34 entering the final quarter, Smith led the Mountaineers (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) on a 12-play, 76-yard drive capped by his third TD pass of the game to Stedman Bailey, putting WVU ahead to stay.

Andrew Buie (207 yards, 31 carries) iced the contest with the second of his two scoring runs with 1:18 remaining.

Tavon Austin hauled down 10 passes for 102 yards and a score in the wild win.

David Ash (22-of-29, 269 yards) found Marquise Goodwin with an 8-yard TD with 15 seconds left, but the Longhorns (4-1, 1-1) couldn't recover the ensuing onside kick attempt, thus ensuring West Virginia's victory.

Joe Bergeron led Texas with four rushing touchdowns.
