CLEMSON, S.C., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Tajh Boyd threw five touchdown passes and defensive end Kourtnei Brown scored twice in co-No. 8 Clemson's 59-38 win over North Carolina Saturday.
The Tigers (8-0, 5-0 ACC), who shared the No. 8 ranking with Oregon, scored 35 points in the third quarter to take control.
Clemson racked up 449 total yards to 408 for the Tar Heels (5-3, 1-3). North Carolina was victimized by six turnovers.
Brown converted two turnovers into touchdowns, becoming the first Clemson defensive lineman since Walt Larraway in 1954 to score two TDs in a game.
Boyd's career day included 27-of-46 passing for 367 yards. He also ran in a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
DeAndre Hawkins caught nine passes for 157 yards and a touchdown.
North Carolina trailed 24-17 at halftime. The Tar Heels had two touchdown receptions by Jheraine Boyd while Bryn Renner went 19-of-33 for 264 and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times and lost a fumble.
