COL FB: Clemson 56, Maryland 45

COLLEGE PARK, Md., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Sammy Watkins scored three of Clemson's five second-half touchdowns Saturday, including a key kickoff return, boosting the Tigers past Maryland 56-45.

No. 8 Clemson remained unbeaten with its seventh victory of the season, four of the triumphs having come in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Watson caught two scoring passes in the second half from Tajh Boyd, but Maryland went in front 45-42 when Matt Furstenburg scored on a 32-yard throw from C.J. Brown with 7:35 remaining.

Watkins then fielded the kickoff and brought it back 89 yards for the game-winning touchdown. Andre Ellington added a 44-yard scoring run for the Tigers with 3:55 to go.

Maryland owned a 28-17 halftime lead while making an upset bid, but Clemson produced 39 second-half points. Boyd threw four touchdown passes and completed 26-of-38 passes for 270 yards. He was intercepted once.

Brown threw for three scores for Maryland (2-4, 1-2).

Walker's touchdown catches went for 13 and 15 yards, both coming in the third period. He caught eight passes overall for 105 yards.
