COL FB: Alabama 48, Kent State 7

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Trent Richardson ran for three touchdowns Saturday to lead Alabama in a 48-7 runaway win in their home opener against Kent State.

Richardson ran for only 37 yards on three carries but he scored on two 1-yard TDs and a 9-yard run.

A.J. McCarron completed 14-of-23 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown toss to Marquis Maze in a 21-point first quarter for the No. 2 Tide (1-0).

Maze had 118 yards receiving and Jalston Fowler was the leading rusher with four carries for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Alabama kept the Golden Flashes off the scoreboard until the third quarter when Justin Thompson caught a 3-yard TD pass from Spencer Keith with 9:19 to play in the third quarter. Keith finished the day 20-of-47 for 99 yards.
