COL BKB: St. John's 61, Notre Dame 58

NEW YORK, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Moe Harkless scored 22 points Saturday and St. John's went on to edge No. 18 Notre Dame 61-58.

The Irish (20-9, 12-4 Big East) had a chance to pull the game out at the wire but Alex Dragicevich missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer, one of 27 treys the Notre Dame failed to connect on in the game.

D'Angelo Harrison led St. John's (13-16, 6-10) with 15 points and Amir Garret added 11. The Red Storm won their third in a row and beat a ranked opponent for the first time this season.

Notre Dame slipped into second place behind Marquette in the Big East and needs to win one of its two remaining games in order to secure a double-bye in the conference tournament.

The Irish never led Saturday and trailed 31-25 at halftime. Notre Dame trailed 57-56 with 1:28 left in the game but Garret assisted on a layup by Harkless and then converted a field goal with 10 seconds left to put the game away.
