Alfonso Cuaron wins Directors Guild Award for 'Gravity'

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The Directors Guild of America bestowed its top honors on Alfonso Cuaron, Vince Gilligan and Beth McCarthy-Miller in Los Angeles Saturday night.

Cuaron earned the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film for "Gravity," while Gilligan won the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Dramatic Series prize for "Breaking Bad" and McCarthy-Miller the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Comedy Series trophy for "30 Rock."

Steven Soderbergh won the prize for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a TV Movie or Miniseries for his film "Behind the Candelabra."

The Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Documentary accolade was presented to Jehane Noujaim, who helmed "The Square."

Jane Lynch served as host of the event at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Among the presenters helping out at the ceremony were Ben Affleck, Debbie Allen, Michael Apted, Paris Barclay, Sandra Bullock, Nick Cannon, Don Cheadle, Kristin Chenoweth, Steve Coogan, Bradley Cooper, Jon Favreau, Taylor Hackford, Tom Hanks, Keith Jackson, Anna Kendrick, Allison Liddi-Brown, Sarah Paulson, Rob Reiner and Kerry Washington.
