COL FB: Mississippi State 27, Kentucky 14

LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Tyler Russell connected on 23-of-39 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns Saturday in 19th-ranked Mississippi State's 27-14 win over Kentucky.

Chad Bumphis hauled down nine passes for 104 yards and a score, giving him a school-record 18 career scores for the Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0 SEC).

Adrian Marcus also made a scoring grab as Mississippi State continued its best start since 1999.

The Wildcats (1-5, 0-3) dropped their fourth consecutive game.

Quarterback Patrick Towles suffered an ankle injury at the end of the second quarter. Jalen Whitlow entered and went 10-of-21 through the air for 73 yards while also rushing for 26 yards and a touchdown.
