This year's show was unique as many of the celebrities came together to show their support of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements against sexual harassment. Most wore black and many brought activists as dates.

"I'm here to be one of the women in black, talking about the fact that time is up on the imbalance of power in society. Time is up on our silence. Time is up on women not supporting each other. I'm really honored to be here and part of that campaign," Scandal actress Kerry Washington said in a pre-show interview on NBC.

Golden Globes host Seth Meyers started the show by acknowledging the sexual harassment allegations that have been in the news the past few months.

"Good evening, ladies, and remaining gentlemen," Meyers said at the start of the show.

"Happy New Year! It's 2018. Marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn't. It's going to be a good year!" he said.
