Toronto Maple Leafs place Martin Marincin on IR

The Toronto Maple Leafs placed defenseman Martin Marincin on injured reserve Monday with a lower-body injury.

Marincin, 24, was injured in Toronto's 4-1 win in Boston on Dec. 10 when he crashed into the boards at TD Garden. He has one goal, four assists and four penalty minutes in 16 games this season.

The Maple Leafs also recalled forward Frederik Gauthier from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Gauthier, 21, has one goal and three assists in 16 games with the Marlies this season. The Laval, Quebec, native skated in seven games with the Maple Leafs in 2015-16, including his NHL debut on March 19.

Gauthier was selected by Toronto in the first round (21st overall) of the 2013 NHL draft.
