May 4 (UPI) -- PGA Tour pro Ian Poulter isn't exactly the easiest golfer to relate to on social media, but he doesn't appreciate Twitter trolls.

Poulter released a statement to acknowledge that fact on Thursday.

"Social media has its pluses and minuses," Poulter wrote on Twitter. "On a good note I love sending great videos and pictures for you guys to see. I'm open, honest, give more than just golf golf golf, I have a great following from all different sports, business, cars, fashion and many other things."

"The sad part of social media are when people take objection to what you post, spare 1 second and think to yourself," Poulter wrote. "If you take offense to my post then you are probably the wrong person...If you don't like what I post, please unfollow and go follow someone else. I'm extremely happy to block any negative comments. I actually enjoy blocking the sad individuals."

Poulter included the caption: "Social Media... #BlockTheSadLowLifeIndividuals."

Although many of the messages from trolls are uncalled for, Poulter has had some disconnect with his audience. This week he posted a photo of a bunch of golf balls with the caption: "How do you mark your @titleist practice balls....?" The bundle of Titleist balls each have a bold "IP" inscribed in permanent marker. But this isn't a problem for the average golfer, who doesn't have the luxury of having spate balls for practice and an actual round.

Poulter also caused a ruckus in 2014 when he complained about his nanny's business-class seat being downgraded on a flight. That tweet has since been deleted.

The 41-year-old English golfer is currently ranked No. 199 in the World Golf Rankings. Poulter's best finish in a major was second place in the 2008 Open Championship. He is a 12-time European Tour champion. Poulter has 2.3 million Twitter followers.

He finished tied for 32nd at the 2017 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. His last official win on the PGA Tour came at the 2012 World Golf Championship-HSBC Champions.
