Tennessee has hired away former Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke from Alabama, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

Weinke is expected to replace running backs coach Robert Gillespie, who left Tennessee earlier this week, GoVols247 reported, citing sources close to the situation.

An offensive analyst with the Crimson Tide, Weinke will be reunited with Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt, who was defensive coordinator at Alabama before assuming his new position in December.

Weinke, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2000 while at Florida State, spent one season with the Crimson Tide. He was the quarterbacks coach with the St. Louis Rams for the previous two seasons.

Gillespie had been the lone holdover from the previous coaching staff at Tennessee. He had been with the Volunteers since 2013 and also served as the recruiting coordinator since 2015.
