Report: Former Rutgers Scarlet Knights LB Lester 'L.J.' Liston charged with murder

Former Rutgers linebacker Lester Liston was charged with murder and three other felonies, USA Today reported Monday.

Michigan prosecutors charged the 22-year-old Liston, who was arraigned on Friday. He is being held without bail on a number of charges, including first-degree murder, felony use of a firearm, possession of less than 50 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute and careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death, Genesee County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson John Potbury told USA Today.

Liston allegedly shot a man on July 30 in retaliation for a different murder. A woman was also injured, according to MLive.com.

Liston had been dismissed from the Rutgers team in March 2015 by Kyle Flood, who was the head coach at the time.

The school did not disclose a reason for the dismissal, but NJ.com reported Liston did not meet some of the team's requirements and had conflicts with coaches.

Liston appeared in 22 games in two seasons with the Scarlet Knights, making 31 tackles, including one tackle for loss. He started one game.

Liston transferred to Northern Michigan University after he left Rutgers.
