Alabama kicker Foster receives letter of support from George W. Bush

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Alabama place kicker Cade Foster said a letter of encouragement he received from former President George W. Bush will be put in a frame and treasured.

Foster faced criticism and death threats after his Alabama team lost to Auburn University in late November, effectively ending Alabama's chance to play in the national title game, CNN reported Thursday.

The kicker missed two field goals and a third was blocked during the game. His lack of success led to his replacement by another kicker for what was to have been a last-second field goal in a tie game, but the kick was caught and returned for an Auburn touchdown and victory.

Bush's letter, which Foster displayed online Wednesday, reads, "Dear Cade [#43], Life has its setbacks. I know! However, you will be a stronger human with time. I wish you all the best."
