COL FB: South Carolina 38, Tennessee 35

COLUMBIA, S.C., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Adam Yates kicked a field goal and the Gamecocks defense came through late in the game to help No. 16 South Carolina hold off Tennessee 38-35 Saturday.

The Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC) ended a two-game losing streak, snuffing out the final two Tennessee (3-5, 0-5) drives with a fumble recovery and an interception.

The win was tempered by an apparent knee injury to star South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore, whose 2011 season was cut short by a knee injury. He was taken from the field on a cart in the second quarter Saturday.

Yates connected from 36 yards with 10:00 to play in the fourth quarter to give South Carolina a 38-28 lead that was enough of a cushion to withstand Tyler Bray's 22-yard TD pass to Zach Rogers with 8:35 left.

Bray finished 27-for-43 for 368 yards and four touchdowns for the Volunteers. He was picked off by Victor Hampton with 23 seconds to play.

Connor Shaw was 22-for-32 for 356 yards and three TDs for South Carolina. Bruce Ellington caught six passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Justice Cunningham had six catches for 108 yards.
