BELLEFONTE, Pa., March 12 (UPI) -- A lawyer for ex-Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky said prosecutors should be required to be more specific about when alleged abuse occurred.

Lawyer Joseph Amendola said at a hearing Monday he would seek to have charges against Sandusky dismissed if prosecutors do not provide more specific time frames for when he allegedly abused 10 youths, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Amendola said vague time periods for the alleged crimes -- in some cases, as long as six years, the Inquirer said -- would prevent the defense from challenging specifics in the alleged victim's accounts.

"I think it's fundamentally unfair to Mr. Sandusky's due process rights and his chance to have a fair trial," Amendola said.

Prosecutors, however, said the alleged victims' failure to provide specific dates and times isn't surprising, given their age at the time of the alleged attacks and the amount of time that has elapsed.

The (State College) Centre Daily Times reported prosecutor Joseph E. McGettigan told Judge John Cleland the accusers, now adults, have repressed memories of the alleged abuse.

Cleland made no ruling Monday.

"I will take a look at this," he said, before adjourning court.

Sandusky has denied charges he molested 10 boys during a 15-year period.
