Arizona State fires Erickson

TEMPE, Ariz., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Arizona State football Coach Dennis Erickson won't be invited back after this season, school officials said Monday.

ASU Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love said Erickson, in his fifth season as the Sun Devils' coach, will be let go after finishing out the year with the team's appearance in a bowl game to be determined Sunday.


"We are grateful for the service Dennis and his staff provided for the past five years," Love said. "Even during the most difficult times, he represented ASU with dignity."

Erickson, 64, compiled a 31-30 record with the school. The Sun Devils finished 6-6 this season, dropping their final four games after a 6-2 start.

He was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2007, his first as ASU's coach, winning a share of the Pac-12 conference title a trip to the Holiday Bowl.
