Arkansas tight end Uekman dies at 19

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Arkansas tight end Garrett Uekman, a 19-year-old redshirt freshman, died Sunday after he was discovered unconscious, school officials said.

The Little Rock, Ark., native was last seen playing a video game in his dorm room about an hour before he was found unresponsive by another roommate around midday Sunday, a university police spokesman said.

The player was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived and was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville where he was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m.

The cause of death hasn't been determined, but authorities said foul play isn't suspected.

Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long said Uekman's death is "a terrible shock," while head football Coach Bobby Petrino added the freshman was "a special member of our family."

Uekman's death followed the Razorbacks' 44-17 win Saturday over Mississippi State.
