COL FB: Notre Dame 16, Boston College 14

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The 25th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish closed out their home schedule Saturday by edging visiting Boston College 16-14.

Tommy Rees threw for 256 yards and David Ruffer kicked three field goals for Notre Dame (8-3), who won eight of their last nine games.

Chase Rettig was 18-of-38 passing for 170 yards and a touchdown for Boston College (3-8), but the Eagles were held to 250 total yards of total offense.

Notre Dame started quickly with a first-quarter touchdown run by Jonas Gray and led 13-7 at halftime. It was the only Irish touchdown of the game.

Notre Dame built a 16-7 lead on Ruffer's 27-yard field goal with 8:08 left in the game.

Boston College made it close on a 7-yard pass from Chase Rettig to Bobby Swigert with 1:57 to play that closed out the scoring. The Eagles had one final possession, which ended on the final play of the game with a fumble recovered by Notre Dame.
