COL FB: Louisiana St. 47, West Virginia 21

MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Morris Claiborne sealed second-ranked Louisiana State's win Saturday with a 99-yard kickoff return and the Tigers held on to down No. 16 West Virginia 47-21.

LSU (4-0) saw its one-time, 20-point lead dwindle to six late in the third quarter when Dustin Garrison's 1-yard TD plunge put West Virginia within 27-21.

But Claiborne short-circuited the comeback attempt by returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.

Jarrett Lee hooked up with Odell Beckham, Rueben Randle and Chase Clement on TD passes while Michael Ford added two rushing scores for LSU.

The Mountaineers (3-1) lost despite an impressive night from Geno Smith, who tossed for 424 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted twice, however.
