Boise State moves to No. 4 in rankings

MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- The Oklahoma Sooners and Boise State Broncos, despite not playing, enhanced their positions in college football's USA Today Coaches Poll.

Oklahoma (1-0) couldn't improve on its No. 1 ranking but did grab an additional No. 1 vote after its off-week. The Sooners have 44 of the 59 first-place mentions by the panel of coaches. Boise State (1-0) moves from fifth to fourth in the rankings.

Alabama (2-0) lost a first-place vote and has eight this week but is still No. 2 in the rankings, with Louisiana State (2-0) getting the other seven first-place votes and remaining third.

Florida State (2-0) falls one place to fifth due to Boise State's move up while Stanford (2-0) and Oklahoma State (2-0) keep the Nos. 6-7 spots, respectively. Wisconsin (2-0) moves ahead of Texas A&M (1-0), which didn't benefit from the week off, for eighth and Nebraska (2-0) is again 10th.

South Carolina (2-0) switches places with Virginia Tech (2-0) and is 11th. Arkansas (2-0) keeps the No. 13 spot while Oregon (1-1) is 14th and Michigan State (2-0) is up one place to 15th.

That move shoves Ohio State (2-0) down one to 16th and Florida (2-0) is 17th. Arizona State (2-0) jumps from 23rd to 18th, Auburn (2-0) is up three places to 19th and West Virginia (2-0) moves from 24th to 20th.

Texas (2-0) stays in the 21st spot while South Florida (2-0) enters the rankings at No. 22. Texas Christian (1-1) is up two to 23rd and Baylor (1-0), idle a week after beating TCU, is 24th. Mississippi State (1-1), 17th a week ago, is 25th after a loss at Auburn.

Missouri and Penn State fall out of the rankings this week.
