COL FB: Stanford 57, San Jose State 3

STANFORD, Calif., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Andrew Luck tossed for 171 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, elevating No. 7 Stanford to a 57-3 season-opening shellacking of San Jose State.

Luck, last year's Heisman Trophy runner-up who decided to return to Stanford, completed 17-of-26 passes and rushed for a one-yard score for the Cardinal (1-0).

Stepfan Taylor carried the ball 18 times for 61 yards and two touchdowns as Stanford won its ninth straight game dating back to last season.

Chris Owusu hauled down seven passes for 76 yards and Coby Fleener added three catches for 53 yards and a touchdown in new Coach David Shaw's first game.

Matt Faulkner completed 14-of-26 passed for 184 yards for San Jose State (0-1).
