Zion Williamson: Duke freshman phenom dunks from free throw line

By Alex Butler

June 29 (UPI) -- Duke freshman Zion Williamson added another chapter to his book on phenomenal dunks recently, with a free throw line throw down.

Williamson, 17, took flight on Thursday at Spartanburg Day High School in Spartanburg, S.C. He posted a video of his effort on his Instagram story. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound high riser started the stunt from the opposing baseline. He sprinted the length of the court, before planting a foot at the free throw line and flying toward the rim. He flushed the shot through the rim with ease.

The dunk invoked memories of Michael Jordan's iconic free throw line dunk at the 1988 NBA dunk contest. Julius Erving also pulled it off at a previous dunk contest.

Williamson has made a habit of putting in incredible dunks. He posted many of them to his Instagram account while in high school, growing his following on the social media platform to a crow in excess of 1.5 million.

The top prospect won the McDonald's All-American Dunk Contest in March. He also posted a video of himself in May, responding to a dunk video from LiAngelo Ball on Instagram.

Duke battles Ryerson University as part of the Duke Canada Tour at 7 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the Hershey Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Williamson is one of the top three high school prospects in the country that chose to join the Blue Devils this season.
