COL BKB: Stanford 53, Connecticut 51

HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Chasson Randle scored 22 points in a defensive struggle Wednesday, sending Stanford to a 53-51 win over No. 10 and previously unbeaten Connecticut.

Stanford held the Huskies to two points over the final 7:30. Connecticut went 1-of-11 from the field during that stretch with one turnover.

Connecticut fell to 9-1, leaving 12 unbeaten teams in major college basketball. Ohio State and Massachusetts both kept their unbeaten seasons going earlier in the evening. The Huskies had won 56 consecutive home games against non-conference opponents.

Stanford fell behind by 10 points at halftime, then limited the Huskies to 13 points in the second period. Connecticut shot a mere 31 percent for the game.

Randle put Stanford in front for good at 50-49 with a jumper that came with 6:22 to play. Josh Huestis added 13 points for Stanford (8-2), winner of three in a row.

The Huskies were led by DeAndre Daniels with 15 points and Shabazz Napier with 12. Napier went only 4-of-13 from the field and missed five shots during the closing 7:30.
