COL BKB: Kansas 80, Louisiana-Monroe 63

LAWRENCE, Kan., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Andrew Wiggins scored 16 points in his collegiate debut and No. 6 Kansas needed his strong effort Friday to fight off Louisiana-Monroe 80-63.

Wiggins was the consensus top recruit in college basketball this year and he played a key role in bringing the Jayhawks their 700th victory at Allen Fieldhouse.

Kansas led by just two points seven minutes into the game, inched in front by 10 at intermission and held off the Warhawks in the second half.

Wiggins hit 5-of-9 from the field that included a running jump shot on his first attempt of the game.

Perry Ellis and Andrew White III both had 12 points for the Jayhawks, who will meet No. 4 Duke in Chicago on Tuesday.

The Warhawks were led by center Marvin Williams with 19 points and six rebounds.
