COL BKB: Florida vs. Georgetown, canceled

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Condensation on the court aboard the USS Bataan Friday forced Florida and Georgetown to cancel their season-opening game.

The No. 10 Gators and the Hoyas had reached halftime when the moisture became too severe to continue.

It was one of two games scheduled to be played on aircraft carriers on the opening night of the college basketball season, and both had to be called off because of moisture on the court.

The scheduled game between No. 4 Ohio State and Marquette never got under way because the court built on the deck of the USS Yorktown was too wet.

Florida was leading 27-23 at the half, but as the players came out for the second period the attempts to dry the court were already under way.

"It's very dangerous and we don't want anyone to get hurt," Georgetown Coach John Thompson III said.
