COL BKB: Tennessee St. 72, Murray St. 68

MURRAY, Ky., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Kenny Moore led a second-half comeback and made two clutch free throws Thursday to give Tennessee State a stunning 72-68 win over No. 9 Murray State.

The Racers became the last team in major college basketball to suffer a loss this season, having won their first 23 games of the campaign. Murray State let 12-point lead slip away in the second period and turned the ball over three times in the final 8 seconds.

Murray State still has a three-game lead over Tennessee State in the Ohio Valley Conference, but suffered a big blow in its hopes for a high seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Racers climbed within a point when Isaiah Cannan converted a 3-point play with 41 seconds to play, but they did not score again.

After an exchange of turnovers, Tennessee State's Robert Covington gave Murray State some hope by missing two foul shots with 8 seconds left, leaving the Racers only one point behind.

Another Murray State turnover, however, led to Moore going to the line and he made both his attempts with 3 seconds to play. Jordan Cyphers added one more foul shot for the Tigers after yet another Murray State turnover.
