SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Grant Gibbs hit a key 3-pointer down the stretch Wednesday and No. 18 Creighton survived a late miss to edge Missouri State 66-65.
The Bluejays (17-2, 7-1 Missouri Valley Conference) won their seventh straight game in a contest that was tied on 16 occasions and in which the lead changed hands 10 times.
Creighton took the lead for good with 2:43 remaining on a free throw by Gibbs and his 3-pointer put the Bluejays in front by four.
Jarmar Gulley brought the Bears within a point by hitting a jumper and Missouri State regained possession with a chance to win it after a missed free throw on the front end of a 1-and-1 opportunity.
Anthony Downing, however, had a jumper rim out at the buzzer.
Gregory Echenique had 16 points for Creighton and Doug McDermott added 15. Downing led Missouri State (11-9, 4-4) with 14.
