Tim Hardaway Jr. and Zack Novak added 10 points apiece as the Wolverines beat the Spartans for the third straight time. The meeting was the first with both teams ranked in almost 14 years.

The winning play was set up when MSU's Keith Appling turned the ball over on a backcourt violation in the final 2 minutes.

Draymond Green had a chance to win it in the final seconds but his off-balance shot bounced off the rim for Michigan State (15-4, 4-2).

Derrick Nix scored a team-high 13 points and Appling finished with 10 for the Spartans.
