COL BKB: Connecticut 83, St. John's 69

HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Hot-shooting No. 9 Connecticut closed out 2011 Saturday by cruising past St. John's 83-69.

The Huskies (11-1, 1-0 Big East) shot 60.4 percent from the field and were led by Shabazz Napier, who went 5-of-6 from the field and led the team with 17 points.

Andre Drummond added 16 points for UConn and Jeremy Lamb tallied 15. Ryan Boatright was also in double figures with 10 points off the bench.

St. John's (7-6, 1-1) had four starters in double figures, including D'Angelo Harrison, who led the effort with 17 points. The Red Storm, however, shot 36.2 percent from the field, including a 4-of-16 performance by Harrison.

Moe Harkless and God'sgift Achiuwa both scored 16 for St. John's. Sir'Dominic Pointer added 15 and led the team with eight rebounds.

UConn held a 38-25 lead at halftime but outscored St. John's by just 1 point in the second half.
