COL BKB: Connecticut 79, Fairfield 71

HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Ryan Boatright's 3-pointer with 1:19 remaining ended a Fairfield rally Thursday and sent No. 9 Connecticut to a 79-71 victory over the Stags.

Connecticut owned a 20-point lead at halftime but the advantage was cut to just three when Fairfield's Sean Crawford made a layup with 2:30 to play.

Boatright then hit his key 3-point shot to give the Huskies a 75-69 advantage. After a Fairfield miss, Jeremy Lamb converted a dunk to wrap up the game with 48 seconds left.

Connecticut raised its record to 10-1, its only loss coming Nov. 25 against Central Florida. Fairfield fell to 7-5.

Shabazz Napier led the Huskies with 27 points, hitting 8-of-11 from the field and 8-of-9 from the foul line. Andre Drummond contributed 16 points and nine rebounds while Lamb had 15.

Rakim Sanders scored 18 for Fairfield, which stayed in the game by hitting 12-of-27 from 3-point range.
