COL BKB: Syracuse 84, Eastern Michigan 48

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- James Southerland netted 19 points Tuesday and third-ranked Syracuse shook off controversy to pound Eastern Michigan 84-48.

The Orange (7-0) didn't show any on-court effects of a firestorm surrounding allegations of child sex abuse against former assistant Coach Bernie Fine, who was fired by the school Sunday.

Calls for the resignation of head Coach Jim Boeheim have been issued in recent days, prompting Syracuse Chancellor Nancy Cantor to give Boeheim a vote of confidence before Tuesday's game.

It was fourth straight win for Syracuse since Fine was hit with allegations of molesting two former ball boys two weeks ago.

Brandon Triche added 12 points and Kris Joseph chipped in 11 for the Orange.

Eastern Michigan (4-3) was led by Darrell Lampley with 19 points.
