Dr. L. Stephen Coles of the Gerontology Research Group in Los Angeles, which authenticates human-age claims for Guinness World Records, confirmed her death.

Iglesias-Jordan was recognized as the world's oldest living person only a few weeks ago. The groups verified Iglesias-Jordan was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, on Aug. 31, 1889, 10 weeks earlier than Charlotte Enterlein Benkner, who had incorrectly held the title from November to April.

Iglesias-Jordan's family produced a baptismal certificate, a 1912 marriage certificate, 1910 and 1920 census data and a birth certificate issued in 1948 to prove her age. Iglesias-Jordan was born the same year as Adolf Hitler and Charlie Chaplin.

Both women were the eldest of 11 children and were married without children.

The title of world's oldest person now goes to Hendrikje Van Andel-Schipper of the Netherlands, who was born June 29, 1890.
