New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist sustained a sprained knee ligament while leading Sweden to the gold medal at the 2017 IIHF World Championship.

Lundqvist told the Swedish newspaper Sport-Express that he injured his knee before to the gold-medal matchup against Canada last month.

The Rangers confirmed the injury to NHL.com and said the Grade 1 sprain of the medial collateral ligament will sideline Lundqvist for four-to-six weeks.

Lundqvist made 42 saves in a 2-1 victory over Canada in the championship game and turned aside all four attempts by the Canadians in the shootout. He said he expects to be ready for the 2017-18 season.

The 35-year-old Lundqvist backstopped New York to the Eastern Conference semifinals this season, where the Rangers lost in six games to the Ottawa Senators.

Ranked No. 10 on the all-time list with 405 victories, Lundqvist reached the 30-win mark for the 11th time in his 12 seasons with New York. He went 12-6 with a 2.25 goals-against average and one shutout in the postseason.

The former Vezina Trophy winner became the 17th goaltender in history with at least 60 shutouts, finishing the season with 61.
