NCAA college football Top 25 AP poll update, rankings: SEC teams occupy top two spots

The top two teams in the nation reside in the SEC.

Georgia moved up one spot to No. 2 after its 42-7 blowout win over Florida, combined with Penn State's loss to Ohio State. The Bulldogs received two first-place votes, while conference rival Alabama received the other 59 to remain atop the pole.

The Crimson Tide were idle Saturday.

Ohio State moved up to No. 3 after rallying to a 39-38 victory over Penn State. The Nittany Lions fell to No. 7.

Wisconsin moved up one spot to No. 4 to make it three Big Ten teams among the top seven.

Notre Dame jumped up four positions to No. 5, while Clemson moved up one spot to No. 6.

Oklahoma (No. 8), Miami, and TCU round out the Top 10. TCU was fourth before suffering a 14-7 loss to Iowa State.

The victory over TCU allowed the Cyclones move up 11 spots to No. 14 for the program's highest ranking since being No. 9 in October of 2002.

Oklahoma State (11th), Washington (12th) and Virginia Tech (13th) maintained their spots.

Central Florida is ranked 15th as one of the nation's five remaining unbeaten FBS teams. Alabama, Georgia, Wisconsin and Miami are the others.

Auburn is 16th, followed by USC, Stanford, LSU and North Carolina State. The Wolfpack fell from 14th to 20th after falling 35-14 to Notre Dame.

Mississippi State re-entered the poll at No. 21 after a 35-14 victory over Texas A&M, while Memphis is 22nd.

Arizona cracked the rankings at No. 23 after rolling to a 58-37 victory over Washington State. It is Arizona's first time being ranked since 2015, while the Cougars fell 10 spots to No. 25.

Michigan State dropped eight spots to No. 24 after suffering a 39-31 triple-overtime defeat against Northwestern.

South Florida, which was 17th, fell out of the rankings due to a 28-24 loss to Houston.

West Virginia, which was 22nd, also dropped out after a 50-39 loss to Oklahoma State.
