Les Miles, Lane Kiffin candidates to replace Herman at Houston

Former LSU coach Les Miles and Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin are being considered to replace Tom Herman as the head coach at Houston after Herman accepted the head job at Texas last Monday.

Miles, who was fired from LSU on Nov. 25 following a 2-2 start, is under consideration for the job according to Tilman Fertitta, the chairman of the Board of Regents at Houston.

"I think we have some interest in him, and he has interest in us," Fertitta told ESPN. "I'm not saying he's No. 5 on the list or No. 1 on the list. He's just on the list."

Miles compiled a 141-55 record as a head coach in 16 years at Oklahoma State and LSU. He spent the last 12 years with the Tigers, leading them to a BCS National Championship with a 38-24 win over Ohio State in 2007.

Kiffin, who spent two seasons coaching the Oakland Raiders before returning to college to coach Tennessee and USC, is 35-21 as a collegiate head coach, going 28-15 in four seasons with the Trojans.

Kiffin is reportedly under consideration for the offensive coordinator position at LSU under Ed Orgeron.

Houston also plans to interview West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen as well as interim Cougars coach/defensive coordinator Todd Orlando and offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, according to ESPN.

Under Herman, Houston went 22-4 -- including a 9-3 record (5-3 American Athletic Conference) in 2016. The Cougars tied for third with Memphis in the West division of the AAC standings.
