Appalachian State quarterback Taylor Lamb had two rushing touchdowns, leading the Mountaineers past Georgia Southern 34-10 Thursday at Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Ga.

Georgia Southern jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, taking advantage of an Appalachian State blunder on special teams. Eagles linebacker Ukeme Eligwe scooped up a botched snap on a Mountaineers' field-goal attempt and raced 90 yards down the sideline for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter.

But that would be the Eagles' last score. Georgia State lost for the fourth time in the last five games.

Appalachian State (6-2, 4-0) won its fifth straight game to keep pace with Troy atop the Sun Belt standings.

Lamb scored on runs of 30 and 14 yards and finished with 94 yards on the ground, and Marcus Cox added on a 12-yard touchdown run that put the Mountaineers ahead 27-10 early in the fourth quarter. Jalin Moore tacked on a touchdown run with 3:26 to put the game away for Appalachian State. Cox and Moore each went over 100 yards rushing.

Georgia Southern's Darius Jones Jr.'s interception set up Younghoe Koo's 32-yard field goal in the first quarter. Jay Bowdry also had an interception for the Eagles.
