A quarterback controversy might be brewing in Madison as the Wisconsin Badgers prepare for their Big 10 opener on Saturday at Michigan State.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported late Sunday that quarterback Alex Hornibrook earned the start after his impressive second-half performance last Saturday against unranked Georgia State.

However, on Monday, coach Paul Chryst's depth chart showed Bart Houston as the starting quarterback. Chryst subsequently dodged answering who would start by telling reporters that the team needed both quarterbacks to be ready to play.

Houston was ineffective against Georgia State, although he was plagued by drop passes, a fumble at the goal line and a missed field-goal attempt.

Hornibrook rescued the 35-point-favorite Badgers when he took over early in the third quarter with Wisconsin leading 6-3.

He guided the Badgers to two touchdown drives and another score, and Wisconsin held on for a 23-17 win.

The No. 10 Badgers (3-0) travel to East Lansing, Mich., to face the No. 8 Spartans (2-0). Michigan State has beaten the Badgers four straight times at home.
