Four Auburn Tigers football players, including defensive back Carlton Davis, a freshman All-America selection last season, were arrested over the weekend and cited on misdemeanor drug charges.

Along with Davis, defensive end Byron Cowart, wide receiver Ryan Davis and defensive back Jeremiah Dinson were arrested around 11 p.m.

The four face second-degree possession of marijuana charges, a Class A misdemeanor in the state of Alabama that carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail along with a $6,000 fine.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn released a statement and said, "I am aware of the situation and we will handle this matter appropriately."

Carlton Davis started nine games last season and had three interceptions.

Cowart played in 12 games after being one of the top high school defensive end recruits.

Ryan Davis redshirted last year.

Dinson saw action in nine games before suffering a catastrophic knee injury that will likely sideline him this upcoming season.
