FRESNO, Calif., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Derek Carr threw for 404 yards and three scores for No. 22 Utah State Saturday and the Bulldogs bested Utah State 24-17 for the Mountain West championship.

Carr completed 36-of-53 passes and overcame a pair of interceptions for the Bulldogs (11-1), who claimed their first outright conference title since 1991.

Fresno State yielded just 304 total yards and recorded nine sacks in rebounding from a 62-52 loss to San Jose State last week, which ended its hopes for a BCS bowl bid.

The Aggies (8-5) muffed their chance for a comeback when Dalen Jones intercepted Utah State's Craig Harrison late in the game.
