Rutgers counsel to step aside from football bullying probe

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- The top attorney for Rutgers University will step aside from the investigation into allegations of bullying by a football coach, the school said.

General Counsel John Farmer planned to recuse himself from the matter because he could potentially be called as a witness down the road.

The investigation will be turned over to a private law firm, which has apparently already made contact with other witnesses, a source told NJ.com.

Rutgers is investigating claims by former defensive back Jevon Tyree, who alleged defensive coordinator Dave Cohen verbally abused and physically threatened him. Other Rutgers coaches allegedly ostracized him until he quit the team earlier this month.
