Temple DT Johnson to stand trial

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A Temple University football player will stand trial over allegations he beat his girlfriend, a Philadelphia judge ruled.

Kamal Johnson, 20, is charged with assault after a Sept. 27 fight with his girlfriend became physical, police said. Police said Johnson came to the girl's apartment in the same building as his following a fight on the phone, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday.

Johnson allegedly forced his way in to the woman's apartment and demanded to see her cellphone. When she refused, Johnson allegedly grabbed the woman and dragged her down to his sixth-floor apartment. While there Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 295 pound defensive lineman, allegedly punched the woman in the back, knocking her to the ground where she hit her head.

Johnson has been removed from the Temple football team pending he outcome of the case.
